Wayne Rooney may be an injury casualty for England heading into the World Cup, but I wouldn't count out the Brits just yet. Why? Because David Gerrard is at the peak of his powers and he has a nice little habit of winning titles, not to mention snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. Ask AC Milan about that.
As I write this the FA Cup final between Liverpool and West Ham is in extra time. 3-3. It's not being televised - for the love of god, why not? - but, apparently, Gerrard set up Djibril Cisse for Liverpool's first goal and then scored its next two, including an equalizer in the 90th minute. If Liverpool pulls this out, today will have been quite a heroic day for Gerrard. Again. It would also add an FA Cup trophy to the Champions League trophy he won last year.
All the dude does is win. I wouldn't write off England just yet. Of course, a lot will depend on how Gerrard and Chelsea's Frank Lampard can coexist in the center of the midfield, but as long as the two don't start brawling midgame, England should still be dangerous, healthy Rooney or not.
EDIT: The gane goes to penalties and Liverpool prevails. Gerrard, of course, converts his turn from the spot.
