Yo, Kansas City (Part II)

The invasion of Chitown by Kansas City teams began in earnest last night and went about as well as possible. The White Sox avoided the dreaded letdown game by pummelling the Royals 12-2 while the Fire beat the Wizards 2-0 in the U.S. Open Cup.

Apparently, resting veterans and normal starters was all the Fire needed to snap out of its doldrums. Hardly any of the regulars saw action so, perhaps, fresh blood was the key. Perhaps the veterans are stale. Perhaps they're no longer hungry and the youngsters are. Perhaps the kids demand more time.

Or perhaps the win was mainly the result of the Wizards being a team that has won just twice in its last 12 games. Who knows?

The Fire and Wizards meet again on Wednesday. Javier Vazquez pitches tonight for the Sox and will be looking for his second straight solid effort. Which would be nice.
