Trying Harder Doesn't Always Work (Just Ask Robert Geathers)

Bengals.com, a few weeks ago:

"We need to have a better sense of urgency and it's more of a mentality," Geathers said after practice Wednesday. "Me and Odom have talked about it this week. Not to be hesitant. To get after them. We've been so focused on playing the run, we've been a little hesitant when it comes to situations where we need to get off the ball."
I think we were supposed to believe this newfound focus was going to solve Robert Geathers and Antwan Odom's inability to come within a three-yard radius the quarterback. This, I thought, was funny. And my reaction can be heard on a short podcast titled trying harder doesnt always work. It could have also been titled, "Ryan Freel is annoying."
